Formal Contextual Ontologies for Intelligent Information Systems

چکیده
due to the extensive research in the emerging field of ontologies. Ontologies Driven Information Systems (ODIS) were introduced by N. Guarino in 1998 [Gua98], and recently is finding rather a great attention from numerous, diversified fields such as Web-based information systems, information integration, and the Semantic Web. This paper introduces the notion of contextual ontologies which it can be very promising to deal with the prominent problem namely semantics heterogeneity for information systems. We focus, however, on formal approach based on ontology to deal with the multi-representation problem where the same concept can be used by several information systems. In fact, we present in this paper a snapshot of thesis research work in contextual ontologies. I. INTRODUCTION ODAY, ontologies are widely used in many scientific and commercial disciplines. They have become the backbone for many applications in areas such as: AI, Computer Science, e-commerce, intelligent integration information, database design and integration, and in new emerging fields namely the Semantic Web and pervasive computing. Recently, it was proposed by the computer scientists to assist in designing and developing information systems [6]. Ontologies play a crucial role in today's information systems in two aspects: the development time and run-time. At development time, it serves as: (i) means of declarative knowledge that will allow knowledge reuse instead of software reuse [5], (ii) a repository of shared common vocabulary that enables the developer to reuse and share application domain knowledge. At the run-time, software agents need access to ontologies to communicate with one another. An agent wants to understand the meaning of terms used by other agents. Our focus in this paper will be on the role that context-dependent (contextual) ontologies play when developing intelligent information systems.

Introduction: Today, researchers prefer to have most of their required information at their fingertips. Scholarly or research paper recommender systems are intelligent systems that aim to recommend the most appropriate scientific papers or resources based on users' needs. Past studies have shown that contextual information such as users', system' and environment' contexts influence the quality ...
متن کاملFormal versus Material Ontologies for Information Systems Interoperation in the Semantic Web
Information systems ontology is intended to facilitate interoperability among the many applications which are now becoming available on the Internet. In particular, it is intended to facilitate the development of intelligent agents which can automate a large part of the task of a user achieving some end employing multiple autonomous applications. A large number of ontologies exist supporting sp...
متن کاملReconciling Ontological Differences for Intelligent Agents
This discussion presents several alternative strategies for approaching the problem of semantic interoperability, based on recent projects to develop software agents and systems that attempt to reconcile ontological differences without explicit ontologies. The difficulties of reconciling explicit ontologies are discussed, and possibilities for meaning negotiation through implicit approaches are...
متن کاملThe Role of Ontologies in Agent-based Simulation of Intelligent Tutoring Systems
The paper presents a novel architecture of agent-based simulation of teaching and learning process. We propose a conceptual architecture of such system. There are presented several aspects, how the usage of ontologies for the control of students progress can improve the efficiency of intelligent tutoring systems. Main attention is paid to the usage of ontologies for agent communication and form...
متن کاملContextual Semantic Search Navigation
Search has for a long time been an important tool for users seeking information. Manypopular search systems have been based on keyword search. However, such systems arenot that well adapted to explore the search space. Effective exploration requires systemswhich can guide the user in his quest. The main focus of this thesis is to generate a framework for semantic navigational search...
